Campaign Coordinator

Friends Academy, a PS-12, Independent Quaker Day School located on a 65-acre campus on the North Shore of Long Island, NY, is seeking a full-time Campaign Coordinator. A successful candidate will work closely with the Director of Advancement and Campaign chairs to keep the campaign on schedule and progressing with a high level of visibility and momentum that will bring about a sense of excitement, optimism, and confidence in achieving the campaign goal. The Campaign Coordinator will assist with all tasks related to the capital campaign.

Essential functions of this position include but are not limited to:

  • Major donor work
  • Campaign Committee Work
  • Gift acknowledgment and tracking
  • Campaign reporting and coordination

Requirements:

Applicants should possess a bachelor's degree and at least four years of office experience with an interest in fundraising, public relations/marketing, and/or independent school education. Previous campaign experience is a plus. Excellent technology and Microsoft Office skills.

Middle School Math Teacher (one-year position)

Friends Academy seeks a full-time MS Math teacher for the 2021-2022 school year. The successful candidate will teach four sections of 8th grade Algebra. The ideal candidate will have experience designing inquiry-based pre-Algebra and Algebra curriculum for older middle school students. A full-time faculty position, this role includes serving as an advisor for 10-12 students and supporting a co-curricular activity by coaching a sport or advising a major school activity. All faculty members are expected to support activities and events that contribute to the life of the school and to attend departmental, divisional and all-school staff meetings.

Qualifications:

An undergraduate degree in math, math education, or a similar discipline is required, and a graduate degree is preferred.  We seek candidates with at least three to five years of successful independent school teaching experience.

Physical Education Teacher – K-12

Position Description:  
Friends Academy seeks a Physical Education K-12 Teacher who is a collaborative educator, a relationship builder with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, experience with early learners, and with effective and engaging teaching strategies. A candidate who is seeking to thrive in a vibrant educational environment, embraces change, and has deep interest in our Quaker mission and educational philosophy. As a full-time faculty member, this person will serve as a high school advisor for 8-10 students and coach at least two high school seasons which is a mandatory responsibility.  Other support of activities that contribute to the life of the school and attendance at all-school and other meetings. Other duties as assigned is expected of all faculty members.    

Qualifications:     
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and possess the following:

  • Undergraduate Degree and Certified to teach Physical Education
  • Facilitates children’s physical, cognitive and social and emotional learning through lessons designed to sequentially develop skills appropriate to their ability and confidence levels
  • Supports and engages in the schools work involving identity, diversity, equity, and inclusion
  • Qualified to coach football and lacrosse
  • Supervise and manage students in and out of the classroom, including athletic locker rooms
  • Able to drive a 14 passenger van
  • Maintains appropriate licenses and training as required

Visual Storyteller

  1. Summary of Essential Duties:

    Our goal is to share powerful and compelling stories through photography and video that capture our student-centered educational philosophy and outstanding community.  We have a fantastic Communications/Marketing team and are seeking an experienced part-time Visual Storyteller (Videographer-Editor-Photographer) to join our dynamic, inclusive, and innovative group. 

    A successful candidate will work closely with the other members of the Communications Office including the Director of Brand & Marketing, the Director of Strategic Communications, and the Visuals and Social Media Specialist to film classroom and school life, enrollment and fundraising-based creative, event trailers, and more.  Out-of-the box storytelling, team-inspired creativity, and an insatiable curiosity and work ethic will drive qualifying candidates. This position will also sometimes require after-school filming and editing.   

    Education and Experience:

    College degree or equivalent in communications, digital media, journalism or broadcast production. Three years of professional video and editing is required; editorial campaigns are a plus. Qualifying candidates must supply a high-quality sample reel of their work. We will consider candidates who can demonstrate the following competencies and attributes: 

    Filming Requirements

    • Minimum of 3 years professional shooting
    • Video and still camera experience. 
    • Experienced with location audio/video/lighting
    • Can independently light and set up cameras for single or multi-person interview set ups
    • Interview experience recommended
    • Experience with scripting and storyboarding
    • Drone experience a plus, FAA Part 107 license a plus
    • Experience with live streaming and webcasting to online platforms and social media
    • Experience and professional understanding of audio (mic with lavs, check levels, troubleshooting audio problems)
    • Green Screen experience
    • Up-to-date knowledge on the latest filming trends and technology

    Editing Requirements

    • Minimum of 3 years professional editing experience
    • Adaptable to changing demands and timelines
    • Multi-project time-management required
    • Experience editing projects from 30-second trailer/promos to hour-long programs
    • Demonstrated ability to creatively use music, ambient sound, and voice-over to strengthen a video story/project

    Software & Hardware

    • Required: Adobe Premiere (or equivalent software experience)
    • Preferred: Adobe AfterEffects, Photoshop, Illustrator, LightRoom and Canva
    • Must be Mac proficient
    • Experience with 4K cameras and camera setups

Substitute Teacher (All Divisions)

In each division, there is an occasional need for daily substitute teachers. Additional substitutes are always needed.

Qualifications: 

  • A BA degree and experience teaching students in one or more divisions: Lower School, Middle School, Upper School; an advanced degree is preferred.
  •  Teaching and or Assistant Teaching experience in independent schools is preferred.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills as well as a love for working with children or young adults is required.

After School Classroom Teacher

Friends Academy, a Quaker Independent Day School, PS-12th grade is seeking a part-time early childhood classroom assistant for the after school extended day program. A successful candidate will work Monday-Friday, 3:00 pm-6:00 pm and will assist with classroom management, engage children in activities and other responsibilities as assigned by the classroom teacher. Strong organizational and communication skills as well as a love for working with children.
